Good evening, I don’t normally talk about TV in this newsletter but if you have not watched After Life, you should. Obviously it’s not for the faint-hearted. The subject matter is life, death and its cruelties, the protagonist is struggling and foul-mouthed and the rest of the cast of characters not much better. But what it does remind us is, in this messy, unpredictable, world, we are never alone and never the only one. And the other important message is, everyone handles grief differently. It’s a subject we certainly don’t talk about enough unless it’s forced upon us - nobody wants to think about the end of their life but many have to. Somehow Ricky Gervais’ (he’s written and starred) After Life brings home the reality of grief, shines a light on something most of us will go through, without shirking from the awfulness it creates. But it also allows us to see through the veil. In a world where it increasingly feels like anything could happen and life is increasingly hard, this feels like a positive. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day, Regards, Nicola [email protected] | |
