Take the right amount of sand every time
By Patrick Kane, Golf Digest Certified Teacher

Struggling to make a consistent "divot" from the sand? Try this quick drill. In a bunker, step lightly to make a footprint in the sand, with the toe pointing at your target. Then, place a ball roughly three inches off the imprint of the heel, and set up to hit it. Position the ball in line with your lead foot, and set your weight forward, the clubface open and your hands slightly lower than normal. When you swing, try to “erase” the footprint, entering the sand at the back and exiting at the front. If you’re doing it right, you’ll enter the sand two to three inches behind the ball, making a shallow cut as you accelerate through the sand and splash the ball out. If the footprint is gone, I bet your ball is on the green.
