Truworths is going ahead with a final dividend after warning in May that a payout was unlikely due to the impact of Covid-19 on sales this year. While there has been a big impact, the clothing and footwear retailer says its cash realisation rate - a measure of how profits are converted into cash - was much better this year than in previous years. Impala Platinum's shareholders will also be pleased with their full-year dividend as the platinum producer continues to benefit from operational improvements and significantly higher prices for its metal. It didn't pay dividends for years, before resuming payouts this year. Santam, however, isn't paying an interim dividend due to uncertainty around Covid-19-related claims. City Lodge is also holding back after it earned almost no revenue in the final quarter of its financial year. Telkom, which has suspended dividend payments for the next three years in order to preserve capital, has poured cold water on claims that it's preparing for a rights issue. Risk-taking they say has reached epic proportions, but how do you play this as an investor and what are the driving forces at play? This follows on from "Gold bug?", "Skin on the bones" and "An Apple a day...?" - all highly topical, helpful and popular downloads. |
