| Hello. A report from the US Department of Justice says President-elect Donald Trump escaped conviction for trying to overturn the 2020 election by winning four years later. There is new hope for an end to the war in Gaza, as negotiators trying to seal a ceasefire indicate a deal is close. Meanwhile, TikTok has denied a report that it is in talks for a potential sale to X owner Elon Musk. | |

TOP OF THE AGENDA | Trump would have been convicted of election interference, says DoJ report |

| | Trump, left, called Smith's report "fake". Credit: Reuters | Donald Trump would have been convicted of trying to overturn the 2020 US election if he hadn't been re-elected in 2024, the Department of Justice says. Special Counsel Jack Smith's report to Congress states that there was "sufficient" evidence to prove the president-elect's "unprecedented efforts to unlawfully retain power". The case, related to the Capitol riot on 6 January, 2021, was halted after Trump's victory in November, due to regulations forbidding the prosecution of a sitting president. Trump, who is days from starting a second term, labelled Smith "deranged" and his findings "fake". |

Gaza ceasefire close after negotiators overcome 'biggest challenges' |
|
| Negotiators are as "close as possible" to finalising a Gaza ceasefire and the release of hostages, the Qatari foreign ministry has said during talks in Doha. Majed Al-Ansari said that there would not be a declaration today, but added that the "biggest challenges" had been overcome. His statement came after a Palestinian official told the BBC that Israeli and Hamas delegates were in indirect talks in the same building for the first time since the war began. |
