Trump's FEMA ends grants that help prepare for hurricanes

Hurricane helpline cut: President Donald Trump's administration has ended a Federal Emergency Management Agency program that paid to elevate homes, build levees and do other work to mitigate damage from storms, calling it “wasteful and ineffective.”  

Louisiana was expecting to receive roughly $721 million from the program. Some Louisiana officials sharply criticized the cuts, which FEMA says will give it more funding to respond to natural disasters.

More business investment in Ascension Parish: CF Industries said Tuesday it plans to build a $4 billion, low-carbon ammonia plant near Modeste on the west bank of Ascension Parish, officially announcing a project that promises over 100 jobs and cleared a key hurdle last year for industrial tax exemptions.  

The plant will be in the same industrial park where Hyundai last month announced it will build a $5.8 billion steel mill. Read more.
