| | A 20-minute drive south of the historic town centre of Debrecen is an industrial park: a great sweep of flat land, occupied by one huge grey factory after another, like giant Lego blocks. Dominating this new manufacturing village is a colossal construction site.
This mammoth factory is to be the new European home of Chinese battery manufacturer CATL. It’s the global market leader in battery production and its investment is a boon for the Hungarian government. In Debrecen, CATL gets access to a skilled workforce, raw materials, and - perhaps most importantly - a pathway to European markets. |
