| | The Trump campaign had a busy weekend, with a rally in Prescott Valley, Arizona; a door-knocking campaign that brought Utah volunteers to Phoenix; and a call pitching Latter-day Saint voters on why they should support former President Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential election. In a webinar Sunday night, Trump joined several prominent Latter-day Saint conservatives and Republican lawmakers, including: Sen. Mike Lee Blaze Media CEO Glenn Beck Utah Reps. Burgess Owens and Celeste Maloy Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs Moms for Liberty co-founder Tina Descovich Idaho Attorney General Raul Labrador Trump hit on several themes, including the centrality of family, religious liberty and the Constitution, in his remarks on the call. Vice President Kamala Harris is also reaching out to Latter-day Saint voters, who could prove pivotal to election outcomes in states like Arizona and Nevada. Meanwhile, around 40 Utah Republican volunteers took a bus to Arizona to knock on doors for the Trump campaign in the important swing state. The call and both campaigns’ outreach efforts are not affiliated with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or its leaders. The church maintains a neutral position when it comes to politics. Read more about what those in the webinar said to Latter-day Saint voters. Butterfield Canyon is a pine- and aspen-covered mountainside located just outside the western boundary of the Kennecott Copper Mine in the southwest corner of Salt Lake County. Allinson, who retired 19 years ago, has spent the past five years cleaning up the canyon. Allinson told Deseret News reporter Lee Benson that the canyon has been his favorite place since childhood. After he retired, he began a habit of walking up the canyon's paved road. He began to notice that the others who traveled Butterfield Canyon had less respect for the land than he did, leaving beer cans and fast food wrappers. He also noticed that nobody was picking up the trash — so he began doing it himself. About three days a week, he hikes around the canyon, collecting trash in garbage bags and carrying it to his truck, where he drives it off to the dump. “I have so much love and pride for this canyon,” he said as he finished one of his recent garbage runs. “I get so much self-satisfaction out of doing this.” Read more about the man keeping Butterfield Canyon clean.
