Another one: The latest tropical storm, Nicholas, formed this morning in the Gulf of Mexico. Good news: At this stage, it doesn't look like it's headed this way. Meanwhile, Entergy said this morning that Nicholas could hamper power restoration work in some of the areas Hurricane Ida hit hardest. More than 100,000 customers were still without juice across stretches of southeast Louisiana. Ugh!
Levee roulette: LaPlace was one of those hard-hit areas. Ida brought fierce winds, as well as a storm surge that flooded entire neighborhoods. A federal levee is in the works there, but some flood-weary residents wonder if it's too risky to wait, our Matt Sledge reports.
Rethinking evacuations: With hurricane evacuations being as problematic as they are, maybe it's time to look around for an alternative to hitting the (very congested) highways. Contributing writer Richard Campanella offers an idea from decades ago.
It's Saints Sunday: Finally, the Saints are on TV this afternoon. Game time is 3:25 p.m. on Fox. Here's everything you need to get you in game shape. Hope everyone can enjoy a nice diversion, even if just for a little while. (We'll even toss in a dancing Cam Jordan for extra fun.)
Thanks for taking a break with the Lunch Line today. Stay safe. BW |
