Trooper found dead as manhunt dragged into nightfall

A state trooper was found dead in his car Saturday evening as the search for a gunman officials linked to two consecutive double shootings dragged into nightfall. Lea Skene and Caroline Savoie covered the story as it unfolded Saturday. Here's where we left off. 


Dumped doses

Louisiana had to dump 224,000 COVID vaccine doses that expired because officials couldn't find enough people willing to take them. The AP tells us the number of trashed doses has nearly tripled since the end of July, even as the state grappled with a fourth, deadly surge of the pandemic. Here's the story.


'Mammos and Mimosas'

Had she not taken advantage of the 2020 "Mammos and Mimosas" breast cancer screening event hosted by Baton Rouge General, Tracy Urdiales says she probably wouldn't have known she had cancer until it was too late. Now, as the low-cost screenings roll around again this season as part of the hospital chain's "Protect Your Pumpkins" campaign, she's urging others to take part in the event.
