Sunday, Sunday, Sunday! I like to blast music around the house after church. This leads me right to todayβs trivia. All but one of these artists have top 15 most-watched videos on YouTube. Who didnβt make the cut? Is it Ed Sheeran, Psy, Maroon 5 or Katy Perry? Answerβs at the end! π You asked, I listened: Itβs loud and clear! You love the news snippets and tech hacks we share all week long. Thatβs why youβll see a brand-new look below. Hope you love it! DEAL OF THE DAY
|
YOU SHOULD KNOW𧨠Major backfire: An Illinois homeowner hoped a message written on the roof, "Watch p*rn, not me," would ward off Google satellites. Instead, a Facebook user found it, shared it and it blew up. Now, his homeβs photos are circulating the internet, with hundreds of thousands of shares. Dβoh. Gimme, gimme: Elon Musk's rebrand of Twitter to X faced a slight problem: The @X handle was taken 16 years ago. But, hey, that didn't stop him. The company just took the username, handing over some X swag to its original owner. Come on, that's at least worth a few thousand bucks. π Is someone watching you? Androidβs "Unknown Tracker Alerts" will tip you off about Apple AirTags tailing you. Right now, it's just for AirTags, but Tile and Chipolo will be added later. You'll get a pop-up notification if someone is tracking you. About time! Right-to-repair bummer: If you replace the display on your iPad or iPhone with unofficial parts, your Apple Pencil might not work. Apple is tightening software locks on hardware. Oh, joy, now Apple gear will be even harder to repair. π€ Not yours to share: A Florida dad says his dying son was treated "like an art exhibit." The 18-year-old, Jose Lopez Canizares, was hit by a car while biking and died shortly after. A hospital staffer texted pics of Jose to his friends and posted some to Instagram, geotagging the hospital. Despicable. |

MY TRUSTED ADVICEEvery weekend, I talk to interesting folks on my national radio show that airs on over 420 stations across the U.S. and in 175 different countries on American Forces Network Radio. Hereβs a sneak peek of this weekendβs lineup: Geoffrey Fowler, a tech columnist at The Washington Post, found out the $123 ink cartridges he bought for his HP printer cost about $2 to manufacture. He even tried to make his own printer ink!Heidi from Tucson, Arizona, wants to start a podcast to drive more customers to her business.Loreen from Minneapolis, Minnesota, needs a reliable way to track her mom as she drives across the country.Plus, Benjaminβs tech life is under attack, Steveβs kiddo just got a computer, Tasha needs an online waiver for her dog-sled tour company, and Bob needs an easy way to organize his tennis group. β You have three ways to catch my show: Find me on your local radio station.Listen now in the Komando Community. TECH LIFE UPGRADESScore: A bunch of fast-food restaurants have apps that give you discounts and free stuff. Hereβs a list. Just know youβre handing over data, so the freebies arenβt really free. Worth it for french fries? Your call. Easier than a screenshot: You can share a specific section of a webpage. In Google Chrome, highlight the text, then choose Copy link to highlight. Paste in that link to send your recipient right to that spot. Down the rabbit hole: Wipe away the stuff you stayed up too late searching for on Instagram. Open the Instagram app and tap your profile pic in the bottom right corner. Tap the three-line icon at the top right > Your activity > Recent searches, then tap Clear all twice. Get some zβs: The heat can make it tough to fall asleep. These podcasts (aka sleepcasts) and meditation apps can help. I use No. 4 all the time! PSA: When you use Bluetooth to take a phone call in the car, the sound leaks like crazy. Before you say something really embarrassing while sitting in a parking lot (βDoctor, this rash is all over my β¦β), turn the volume way down. |
IN CASE YOU MISSED ITHave an iPhone 8 or X? They wonβt get the next OS coming in September. Sorry! Time to sell your phone now while itβs still worth something. SellCell and Decluttr are easier to sell on than Facebook Marketplace or OfferUp. You are what you eat: Neurologists avoid decaf coffee, protein powder, fake butter and these foods. So do I! Data breaches stink: Especially when theyβre as big as the MOVEit breach. Make sure youβre updated β this impacts just about everyone, seriously. Calling all caregivers! Or anyone with an older person in their life who always seems to end up in scammers' clutches. Make these three changes on their phone. Heatwave danger: A few weeks ago, I read about how devasting a power outage in Phoenix during summer could be. For your familyβs sake, prepare now. |
WHAT THE TECH?Not a fan of this installation. |
UNTIL NEXT TIME ...The answer: Katy Perry. βRoarβ is No. 16 on the most-watched video list. Not bad β¦ Thatβs 3.82 billion views! Ed Sheeranβs βShape of Youβ is No. 5, Psyβs βGangnam Styleβ is No. 11, and Maroon 5 comes in at No. 15 with βSugar.β π³ On my cooking wishlist this weekend: Crab cake salad and blackberry peach cobbler.
