| On Coronation Day, the LSU baseball team has moved one step closer to the SEC championship throne thanks to two of its most impressive princes: Tre Morgan and Paul Skenes. Morgan hit a two-run home run and made a couple of great defensive gems in left field, while Skenes struck out a season-high 15 over 7.1 innings as No. 1-ranked LSU posted a 3-0 shutout to open the three-game series at Auburn. It's LSU's second straight shutout after a 10-0 run rule win Tuesday at SLU. The Tigers are now 37-8 and 16-5 in SEC play with their eighth straight conference win, keeping LSU percentage points ahead of Vanderbilt, which has split the first two games of its series at Alabama. Game 2 isn't scheduled to start until 8 p.m. Saturday, the nightcap on the SEC Network. While the LSU baseball team is in the thick of the championship chase, the LSU women's basketball team strengthened its bid to repeat as NCAA champion with the announcement that former DePaul forward Aneesah Morrow has signed with the Tigers. Morrow is LSU's second blockbuster transfer this season after guard Hailey Van Lith signed late last month. They were regarded as the top two prospects in the transfer portal, meaning with Angel Reese last year LSU has signed the top three transfers over the past two years. LSU also signed the No. 1 high school recruiting class this year. The Tigers are now the solo favorite to win the 2024 NCAA championship per Caesars at +300, ahead of UConn at +500. Can coach Kim Mulkey get everyone to pull together to try to win another championship? It might not be easy, but players like Morrow and Van Lith are here because they want to win a title. Well, you need to read on, don't you? In May thoughts turn to the beach, and LSU's beach volleyball team is in Gulf Shores, Alabama, competing in the NCAA Tournament. The Tigers opened the 16-team tourney Friday with a 3-2 win over Florida Atlantic, and now play Florida State in Saturday's quarterfinals. That match is at 10 a.m. on ESPN2. Softball opened its series with Georgia with a 3-1 loss to the Bulldogs. They'll play again Saturday at 3 p.m., also on the SEC Network. And finally, remember former LSU sprinter Sha'Carri Richardson? Well, she had the biggest win she's had in the past two years Friday in the 100-meter dash at a meet in Doha, Qatar.
