My husband Lee and I were still grieving and might have waited before adopting again, but our eight-year-old Roxie needed a friend. I can’t explain how, but the moment I saw Milo on the Muttville senior-dog rescue website, I knew he was our dog. Muttville contacted Milo’s foster mom, who quickly arranged a meeting. How could anyone not fall in love with Milo — a tiny gray-and-white eleven-year-old gentleman in need of a forever home? The funny old fellow looked more like a tiny mountain goat than a dog, with his pointy face and ears, beady eyes, and mane of soft white hair. He stood uncertainly on spindly legs and looked up at me cloudy-eyed. His foster mom explained he’d recently been treated for an intestinal parasite in addition to having dental work. The poor little guy looked like a fur-covered skeleton and weighed just seven pounds. I looked at Lee, who nodded, and then we both looked at Roxie, who sniffed Milo with interest.
