"Invention, it must be humbly admitted, does not consist in creating out of void, but out of chaos; the materials must, in the first place, be afforded: it can give form to dark, shapeless substances, but cannot bring into being the substance itself.”
I’ve been re-reading Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein, and the ways the text discusses creativity and the pursuit of knowledge is illuminating, especially when I think about it through the prism of supply chain management.
While the future is uncertain, Shelley poses a helpful reminder in her 1831 introduction: Strategic ingenuity or invention doesn’t come from nothing. You can harness chaos to transform your supply chain into something truly inventive, imaginative and inspired.
