After 12 years of helming UtahPolicy.com, my time here has come to an end. After I push send for today's newsletter, my time as managing editor of this fine publication ends. I'm proud of what we've been able to accomplish in the last 10 plus years. Bob Bernick and I have broken hundreds of stories and set the agenda for political reporting in the state. The past few years working with Bob was the most fun I've ever had professionally, and I'll miss that collaboration. It's immensely gratifying to hear from our readers how much they valued our reporting. I poured my heart and soul into this effort, waking before the sun came up, not closing my laptop until late at night, routinely operating on 4-5 hours of sleep. For me, it was a seven day a week endeavor. I can only hope you enjoyed reading the fruits of my labor as much as I loved doing the work. I am grateful to LaVarr Webb, who approached me in March of 2008 when I was working at a local public radio station, to ask if I was interested in heading up his digital publication. I didn't know what I was getting into, but I did know that this was the new frontier of journalism. It was a risk, but also an opportunity I couldn't pass up. I wish him the best as he moves this fine publication to the Deseret News. Next week I begin the next chapter of my career with the Salt Lake Tribune. It's another opportunity to help build something from the ground up, and I can't wait to get started. Thanks for reading. Thanks for allowing me to earn your attention every morning. Thank you for going on this journey with me. I take my leave. --Bryan Schott, August 28, 2020 Thanks for subscribing to Utah's must-read daily political news rundown. If you know of friends or colleagues who would benefit from our daily news roundup, please encourage them to sign up for our newsletter.Today At Utah PolicyBob Bernick's notebook: Parting is such sweet sorrowBy Bob Bernick, Contributing Editor I write this column thousands of miles from Salt Lake City, on travels, and a bit sad.Podcast: John Dean on Trump and authoritarianism By Bryan Schott, Managing Editor Former White House counsel John Dean knows what an authoritarian leader looks like.
