(I’ve been guilty of it too)

Humans are wired weirdly.

We overlook long-term pain and we undervalue long-term gain.

Most of the mistakes we make are because we want short-term results.

BUT…

Short-term thinking is wrong-term thinking.

Sacrificing tomorrow for today is the worst way to think.

Consuming the extra cup of coffee at 1pm for a short-term PM boost that destroys your sleep and the next day’s morning productivity

Short-term thinking of appeasing the loudest people destroys the long-term success of a business, a country, a community.

Short term thinking hurts a business where you chase money today that sacrifices money tomorrow

For example…

Maybe you’ve done a Black Friday Sale where you lower prices dramatically.

Done correctly, and with the right offer, this can be a great move.

But if you’re not careful to avoid short-term thinking…

It can also backfire.

Back when we first started, Coach Daniel and I did this every year in the Fit Body Boot Camp gyms we owned together.

We’d do a huge Black Friday sale and discount annual memberships…

Getting next year’s money today.

But in the long run we only collected a fraction of the total money.

We sacrificed next April just for the dopamine hit of dollars today.

Of course, once we recognized this we course-corrected...

But it was certainly a costly lesson.

Money is an obvious area but I see short-term thinking applied to family, love, energy as well.

Over to you…

Are you sacrificing more money or freedom tomorrow for a quick ego boost today?

Are you sacrificing long-term family or health benefits for short-term success?

It could be as simple as sacrificing math homework time with your kids…

… because you are too busy on your phone right now.

I know it hurts to think that way…

(And believe me… I’m wincing at my own mistakes here too…)

But it hurts more if you realize these things when it’s already too late.

Remember that short-term gains often bring long-term pain (and short-term pain too!)

So my challenge to you this weekend is to do a little “Short Term Sacrifice” audit:

Where can you give up the short-term gains today to reap massive dividends tomorrow?

It may suck for a few hours, days, or even months…

But I promise if you invest yourself wisely now…

You could be sitting in a dramatically different position of more wealth, health, and freedom by this time next year.

Success Loves Speed,

Craig
