Tomorrow! 14 Bay Area BIPOC Women Food and Craft Entrepreneurs to Celebrate and Support

BIPOC people, and BIPOC women in particular, are among the fastest-growing groups of business owners. From 2023 to 2024, Asian American, Black/African American, and Hispanic/Latine women-owned businesses grew an impressive 7.1%, 5.7%, and 1.3% respectively. Being from the global majority allows BIPOC women to craft businesses that honor their heritage and bring historically underrepresented traditions and cultures from across the world to a larger audience. 

This Saturday, March 29, at Pop-Ups on the Plaza: Celebrating BIPOC Women Makers, you can meet 14 local BIPOC women food and craft makers who are bringing innovative and unique offerings to our Bay Area community.

Tomorrow's Demos: Peter Som and Leisel Whitlock Petersen

Join us for two back-to-back demos this weekend! At 11 am, Peter Som, author of Family Stylewill demonstrate how he makes a chicken salad and roasted carrots. Then, at 12 pm, Leisel Whitlock Petersen of Sainte Sophie Creole Confections will show us how to make one of her signature pralines. As always, recipes and free samples will be available for all.

Ferry Plaza Farmers Market: Featured Vendors

As of March 14, SF Chickenbox has closed its doors after six years of bringing delicious chicken sandwiches and mochi muffins to our Bay Area community. Read founder Christian Ciscle's heartfelt goodbye.

On 1,500 acres in the Delta area, Roscoe Zuckerman and his team grow asparagus, melons, and potatoes. Pick up the season's first asparagus at Zuckerman's Farm on Saturdays in the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market.

Mission Community Market: Featured Vendors

Abdullah Sabir and his parents, Bilal and Rabia Sabir, make traditional pies in 19 flavors with 10 ingredients or less, and their famous vegan "No Cookies." Visit Delightful Foods on Thursdays at the farmers market.

Charlie Clark and his family travel along the West Coast through British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon to catch wild salmon. Stop by Coastside Farms & Specialties on Thursdays at the Mission Community Market.
