Stocks tumbled in Monday's trading session, with the Nasdaq selling off for 2.2%. The S&P 500 lost 1.7% on the day, and the Dow fell 1.2%. Small-caps in the Russell 2K ended the session with a 0.7% decline. Today, futures are pointing to a slightly higher open, with S&P 500 contracts showing a 0.1% gain. Aptiv PLC [APTV] - Last Close: $108.21 Aptive is surging on a round of new analyst upgrades. The vehicle component manufacturer is rallying today after Wells Fargo upgraded its rating on the stock to "equalweight" from its previous rating of "underweight:" Wells also raised its price target on APTV from $108 to $112. Just yesterday, Exane BNP Paribas announced it was initiating coverage on APTV with an "outperform" recommendation and a $160 price target. Between the two bullish upgrades, shares of APTV are trending in the premarket. The stock is currently leading the S&P 500 with a 5.0% gain. Veru Inc [VERU] - Last Close: $4.35 Veru is on our list for the second day in a row as shares continue to surge. Upbeat Phase 3 trial results for Veru's treatment for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome relating to COVID-19 lifted the stock to a 182.3% gain by the time yesterday's session closed, and we sounded the alert when it was up just 25% in the premarket. If you jumped in on this trade, you could've seen strong returns on your initial position. However, the surge didn't subside in the after-hours trading session, and shares are continuing to rally in today's premarket. Today, shares are up another 14.0% in today's premarket, on top of yesterday's 182% surge. Biodesix [BDSX] - Last Close: $1.59 Biodesix is up big on news of a successful private placement. The data-driven diagnostics company announced this morning that it had successfully entered into private placement agreements with a consortium of investors, including three board members and existing shareholders, to issue and sell more than 6.5 million shares of its stock. The investors paid $1.79 apiece to acquire the newly-minted shares, equivalent to the closing price on April 7th. Altogether, the price tag for the new shares came out to about $11.7 million, according to a Biodesix's regulatory filing. BDSX is trading actively with a 50.9% gain. Biocardia [BCDA] - Last Close: $2.15 News of a new drug approval is lifting shares of Biocardia in today's premarket. This morning, the clinical-stage regenerative medicine company announced the US Food & Drug Administration approved the firm's Investigational New Drug (IND) application for BCDA-04. The FDA decision clears the way for Biocardia to begin first-in-human Phase I/II trials in adult patients recovering from Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome resulting from COVID-19. Biocardia says it expects to initiate the trial sometime in the third quarter. BCDA is up 54.9% on active trading volume following the premarket announcement. |
