Figure’s remarkable humanoid robot is already being tested at a BMW plant

Robot is being developed by former members of Boston Dynamics, Tesla, and Google DeepMind, and is powered in part by OpenAI tech

Robotics startup Figure has unveiled its second-generation bipedal humanoid robot, the Figure 02 (F.02).

The new version features six head-based RGB cameras for a 360-degree view, a 2.25-kilowatt-hour battery that runs for up to 20 hours, fourth-generation robotic hands with 16 degrees of freedom and human-equivalent strength, and three times the compute and inference power of its predecessor to enable real-world tasks to be performed fully autonomously. It even has AI-powered speech capabilities.

The automaton is being developed to perform menial tasks on factory floors and is already being tested at a BMW plant in South Carolina ...

Humane AI Pin returns are now exceeding purchases

The situation doesn't appear to have improved for the device that was supposed to decouple people from their smartphones

There was much interest in Humane’s AI Pin when it launched earlier this year, but the first reviews made it clear that the device wasn’t ready for prime time.

And now, according to internal sales data seen by The Verge, sales of the $699 AI Pin were exceeded by the number of returns during the quarter ending July 31.

Humane’s AI Pin and accessories have generated more than $9 million in lifetime sales, the report said. But around 1,000 purchases were canceled prior to shipping and sales worth more than $1 million have been returned. Around 7,000 of the devices are believed to still be in customer hands ...

‘Push for speed backfired,’ Sonos CEO says as new products delayed

Patrick Spence said Sonos is investing up to $30 million to 'address the short-term pain' and put things right in its ecosystem

Sonos CEO Patrick Spence has said that two new products scheduled for release later this year will be delayed until major issues in the Sonos ecosystem are fixed.

Speaking on Wednesday in the company’s third-quarter earnings call, Spence continued to apologize for the disastrous Sonos app update released in May, saying that the situation had become “a headwind to existing product sales." He added: “We believe our focus needs to be addressing the app ahead of everything else."

Spence didn't reveal the products that are being held back, but it could involve speakers, including an update to the Sonos Arc soundbar ...

Sci-fi epic's return to theaters will include 70mm IMAX screenings

If you were looking forward to seeing Interstellar on the big screen again as part of its 10th-anniversary celebration, you’ll have to wait a little longer than expected.

Meta shuts down Ready at Dawn, one of its biggest VR studios

Closure comes after more than 20 years of game development for platforms such as the PSP and the Meta Quest (formerly Oculus Rift)

Prominent VR development company Ready at Dawn Studios ceased operating on Wednesday, Android Central reported.

The Meta-owned studio was behind the critically acclaimed Echo VR and Lone Echo games, but it hadn't launched a new title since Echo VR was ported to Quest in May 2020.

A Meta spokesperson said the cuts were made to ensure that Reality Labs — its AR/VR and metaverse segment — stays within new budgetary constraints so that Oculus Studios can make a "better long-term impact" in VR development. The spokesperson added that Meta is still committed to VR development ...
