Nearly six months on, you can now try out Windows 11 Recall

Hopefully Microsoft has finally sorted out its controversial AI feature

After a tumultuous initial reaction and months of reworking, Microsoft has just released the first preview of its controversial Recall feature, Digital Trends reported. It means that if you’re a Windows Insider with a Qualcomm Copilot+ PC, you can install a new build of Windows 11 that includes Recall as well as its Click to Do feature.

Microsoft unveiled Recall in May, trumpeting it as an AI-powered tool designed to enhance productivity by intelligently managing and retrieving information across various apps and platforms. But widespread privacy and security concerns prompted Microsoft to return to the drawing board. Not part of the Windows Insider Program but want to try Recall? Here’s what to do ...

I learned 4 things that will change my photography forever

Whatever you enjoy pointing your camera at, these tips could come in handy

Digital Trends’ mobile specialist Andy Boxall enjoys taking photos of cars, describing the hobby as “a bit of an obsession.” But recently, with the aim of producing more creative results, he decided to turn to talented automotive photographer Chris Kaye for some advice.

After meeting up and taking some shots of a Cupra Born VZ together, Andy reflected on four particularly notable lessons that he learned from Chris. One of these was to move more. Not just left and right, or near and far, but up and down, too, perhaps even holding the camera high up and low on the ground to see the subject from every possible angle. Read on to find out the other top tips shared by Chris ...

Next-gen AirPods Max headphones might take a while to arrive

Apple is reportedly in no rush to launch a next-gen AirPods Max, partly due to the niche market appeal of the $549 headphones

Apple’s 2024 launch program has been pretty busy. But instead of a significant hardware refresh, its top-of-the-line AirPods Max headphones only received a color revamp and a USB-C port. And a true refresh still seems a ways off, according to the prominent Apple tipster Mark Gurman.

In Sunday’s Power On newsletter, Gurman claimed that the next version of the AirPods Max isn’t on Apple’s immediate launch roadmap, saying: “The headphones aren’t a hot enough seller to justify pouring money into development, but they’re also not a big enough flop to kill them outright” ...

Wicked achieves best movie opening of a Broadway adaption

The musical fantasy already has a decent 8.2 rating on IMDb

Wicked went down a storm at the box office this weekend, raking in $114 million from 3,888 theaters across North America on its debut. This makes it the most successful opening ever for a Broadway adaptation, toppling 2014’s Into the Woods ($31 million) from the top spot, Variety reported. Wicked’s impressive start also makes it the third-biggest domestic debut of 2024 behind Deadpool & Wolverine ($211 million) and Inside Out 2 ($154 million).

As expected, Ridley Scott’s action-filled epic Gladiator II placed second on its debut, taking a less-than-expected $56 million from 3,573 theaters across North America, while Red One dropped to third spot, earning just over $13 million in ticket sales ...

PlayStation Portal is now a great way to enter the PlayStation ecosystem

A fresh update to the PlayStation Portal may have just made the $200 gaming device a compelling option for some gamers

When it launched a year ago, the PlayStation Portal was fairly limited in functionality, but a new firmware update now allows the Portal to stream a selection of PS5 games directly from the cloud via the internet, with no PS5 required, Digital Trends reported.

It means that for just $200 and the cost of a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription, anyone can get a bite-sized version of the PS5 experience. While the update to the Portal doesn’t fully take it off the leash — you’re still tethered to a Wi-Fi connection — it does create the perfect on-ramp for new players ...
