People are doing wild things with ChatGPT’s new Voice Mode

ChatGPT's Advanced Voice Mode arrived this week for select OpenAI subscribers ahead of the highly anticipated full release

OpenAI's Advanced Voice Mode for ChatGPT was first announced in May and is designed to do away with the conventional text-based context window and instead converse using natural, spoken words, delivered in a lifelike manner.

Folks with early access have been sharing some of their efforts online, demonstrating Voice Mode’s remarkable ability to speak in various languages and accents, rap, beatbox, translate, add sound effects, and more, all in response to a voiced prompt.

According to OpenAI, Voice Mode offers “more natural, real-time conversations, allows you to interrupt anytime, and senses and responds to your emotion” ...

Tiny projector, epic 4K cinema: Watch movies anywhere with LG CineBeam Q

Projector technology has advanced significantly in recent years. The visual fidelity is just as good as that of your average TV, with a brighter screen than you might expect.

Take the LG CineBeam Q projector, for example. It’s tiny, weighing just 3 pounds, which makes it perfect for portable use. It reimagines what a home cinematic experience can be, delivering true 4K quality in a super-compact form. Beyond that, you’ll love its many features, like content streaming right out of the box, a swing-down handle that can adjust the projector viewing angles, and cinematic sound to match the visuals ...

Google Maps and Waze just got even better with these helpful new features

The two apps are both getting improvements to navigation

Google Maps and Waze just got even better.

Improvements for Google Maps include new guidance for entering buildings like a large apartment complex. As you get near, Google Maps will highlight the building in red and use a green indicator to point to the main entrance so that you don’t miss it. Google Maps will also now show nearby parking spots to save you time.

Meanwhile, users of Google-owned Waze can now receive alerts about new types of traffic cameras, like those that check if you’re wearing a seatbelt or if you’re texting and driving. "These alerts serve as a helpful reminder about an area’s traffic rules, so you can make any necessary adjustments," Google said.

Audio-Technica shores up entry-level dominance with a new turntable

Audio-Technica's new and affordable AT-LP70X turntable offers upgrades that will appeal to vinyl newbies

Audio-Technica has added a new budget-friendly, entry-level option to its turntable lineup in the form of the AT-LP70X, which builds on the popularity of the LP60X, Digital Trends reported.

The $200 AT-LP70X, and its Bluetooth-enabled sibling, the $250 LP70XBT, are fully automatic, belt-driven turntables that are ready to play right out of the box. Both turntables are switchable between 7-inch and 12-inch records with the auto-play feature, and both play at 33 1.3RPM and 44RPM speeds.

They also include a built-in, switchable phono preamp that allows connection to your chosen audio source, be that a set of powered speakers, AV receiver, or integrated amp ...

Psychological thriller Trap targets $20 million on its opening weekend

But Deadpool & Wolverine, now approaching its second weekend, is certain to perform strongly again

From writer/director M. Night Shyamalan (Sixth Sense and Signs) comes Trap, which follows a father (Josh Hartnett) and his teen daughter (Ariel Donaghue) at a pop concert who suddenly realize they've entered the center of a dark and sinister event.

Meanwhile, Deadpool & Wolverine, which owned the box office on its opening weekend, is certain to have a strong second weekend, too. The superhero movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman took in an impressive $205 million at the North American box office last weekend, which puts it in eighth place on the list of all-time best debuts.

Deadpool & Wolverine is certain to top the box office again this weekend, but second place is less clear. It could be Trap, though the disaster epic Twisters, now approaching its third weekend, is still pulling in audiences ...

Ayaneo's new Game Boy-inspired handhelds are now up for preorder

Ayaneo’s new devices are for those who want emulation on the go

Ayaneo announced the Game Boy-inspired Ayaneo Pocket DMG and Pocket Micro earlier this year, and now both of the Android-powered devices are available for preorder, Digital Trends reported.

The Pocket DMG resembles a classic Game Boy, although with its 3.92-inch OLED screen, a 6,000mAh battery, and a Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 chip, it’s obviously a more advanced device. The Pocket Micro is smaller and less powerful compared to the Pocket DMG, and comes with a 3.5-inch 960 x 640 screen and a 2,600mAh battery.

The Micro will start shipping in September, with the DMG out at the end of October ...
