Before we get to our review of LSU's win over UL-Monroe or the pivotal news out of Florida, we start this edition of the newsletter with our colleague Andrea Gallo's story Sunday morning about how responses to Title IX issues will influence LSU's coaching search. LSU has faced a reckoning over its handling of sexual misconduct scandals, and Gallo reported that university officials promised the search for LSU's next football coach "will include an examination of the candidate’s record of handling such allegations." She then dove into the history of some potential candidates' responses. That coaching search suddenly faced a new contender Sunday when Florida fired coach Dan Mullen, putting the school in the thick of a coaching carousel that just keeps spinning faster and faster. There are now 11 FBS openings with a week left in the regular season. LSU is, of course, in the middle of it all as one of the premier jobs in the country. We'll have more Monday on how much — if it all — Florida's opening will affect athletic director Scott Woodward's search. LSU certainly has more competition in the open market now. Onto our weekly game review, the second watching of LSU's 27-14 win against UL-Monroe didn't look much better than the first. The Tigers controlled the game from start to finish, but they never landed the "knockout punch," coach Ed Orgeron said, as they struggled to finish drives in the red zone. LSU's red zone possessions, the impressive play of three freshman wide receivers and how the defense continued to play well became the focus of our film review. We don't recommend watching the game again, but we hope you'll read about it! While football season winds down, LSU men's basketball has started to heat up. Our Sheldon Mickles wrote a story about the development of sophomore guard Eric Gaines, a key player off the bench so far this season because of his maturity and defense.
