Little fish, big impact: When you think of Louisiana fisheries, you might think of trout or redfish or boats loaded with shrimp. But pound for pound, menhaden, aka the humble pogy, claims the title as the state’s largest fishery. But there’s a lot of competition for the small, oily fish and in Louisiana, the only state along the Gulf that doesn't regulate the industry, it’s causing stress up the food chain.
St. Tammany battles: St. Tammany Parish has seen a number of development-related controversies in recent years, stemming from a casino to a distribution center to a move to put the brakes on some home building. Now, a fight is brewing over a plan to designate certain corridors as open for industrial businesses.
From Selma to New Orleans: NOLA Public Schools will soon have a new leader. Avis Williams is coming from Selma, Alabama, and takes the reins in July. We spent some time with her in Alabama.
