Take two: Recently we wrote about the number of television and movie productions happening around New Orleans, a welcome post-pandemic rebound for Hollywood South. But today Tony McAuley reports that a national film technicians strike could throw a little ice on that party.
'Grossly underdesigned': The collapse of the under-construction Hard Rock Hotel in downtown New Orleans might have been inevitable, a report from our partners at WWL-TV suggests. The station says an OSHA engineering report cites “grossly underdesigned” support beams and concludes the collapse “was waiting to happen.”
Mask drama: More mask-mandate angst. A former teacher there has sued the St. Tammany public school district, claiming his refusal to wear a mask – as well as his political activities – got him fired. (You’ll recall St. Tammany was the scene of a big mask protest a couple months back….) And on a (sorta) related note, Pfizer is asking the U.S. government to allow the use of its COVID vaccine in kids ages 5 to 11.
Disturbing: A student was arrested Wednesday and accused of attacking a teacher. What's more, Covington police said the attack might have been inspired by a social media challenge among TikTok users.
Re-orbiting: New life has been breathed into a beloved New Orleans dive bar. The Saturn Bar in the 9th Ward reopens today with new owners who, our Ian McNulty writes, “are determined to put it back on its old orbit.”
Hope you enjoyed the Lunch Line. Thanks for taking a break with us today. BW |
