Align quality and medical staff services functions

This week, CRC Daily covers all things quality. Aligning or integrating quality and medical staff services functions can promote earlier detection of systemic shortcomings that affect a hospital’s reputation, accreditation standing, and bottom line. Despite these perks, organizational leadership may be reticent to change up existing departments, a process that often demands strategic planning, reallocation of resources, and heavy up-front time investment.

Sample tiered approach to reviewing OPPE reports

Establishing a structure for reviewing OPPE reports can be challenging, especially given that the process requires the resource-intensive and time-consuming task of interpreting data. The medical staff drives the OPPE process; however, medical staff leaders often do not have adequate time to review every single report with the necessary level of detail. Effective OPPE review processes involve the administrative department(s) that support OPPE, such as the medical staff services department, PI department, and/or quality department.
