Good evening If you are one of the 13million-plus people who have already had your Covid vaccination, congratulations. Despite the uncertainty around its effectiveness to the variants, most of us would prefer to have it than not, given that it offers some protection against the worst symptoms of the virus and will likely save lives. However, before we get carried away, notes from a couple of readers lead me to strike a note of caution around our actions after we have been vaccinated. Scientific experts and doctors have made it clear that we need to wait AT LEAST three weeks post-jab for the protection to kick in. But this is not being made to clear everyone when they go for their vaccinations. Perhaps it is assumed that people know this - but that is simply not the case and it is a mistake that could lead to people putting themselves (and others) at risk. So if you are one of the volunteers or a medic giving the jab, it is worth pointing this out to every patient. And if you have just had your jab, please continue to take all the usual precautions to keep yourself safe.
