BEAD STRINGING & MORE

Free project: Peridot necklace and earrings

This combination of peridot and periwinkle reminds us of a scene from Alice in Wonderland. Just a few perky blue beads energize the simple green strands. This design by Cathy Jakicic makes a perfect gift for the person with the August birthstone.

Free project: Last days of summer set

Spend the last days of summer flaunting shells and suntans (safe, fake tans, of course). Show off both with a mother-of-pearl pendant decorated with pale flower beads. For a look that takes you into the fall, substitute a gemstone pendant for the shell.

Winners of INTO THE BLUE
The pale blue of an early summer sky; the midnight blue of midsummer, twinkling with stars. Or imagine a body of deep water: from the depth of the ocean to the surface of a still summer lake, how many shades of blue can you conjure? This is what we were looking for in our June Design Challenge. From turquoise to teal, periwinkle to ultramarine, we had dozens of shades represented in the stunning photos that were submitted.

Free Project: Chakra earrings

The colors we gravitate toward (or avoid) can offer us personal insight. Make a pair of earrings in the colors you need to help open your chakras, or if this sounds too “new age,” make a pair to simply heighten your awareness of color combinations.
