Three candles. Three times the impact. 🕎

Dear Reader,

Giving Tuesday is not normally a major event on my calendar, but this year it’s on my birthday. So I’m going to use the occasion to make a targeted gift to several nonprofits where I know it can make a difference.

One of those is the Forward. I’m so proud of the work that we’ve done this year, covering the rise of antisemitism, the changing politics around Israel, and Jewish institutional reckoning with sexual misconduct. In our diverse and divided communities, there will be more important and interesting stories to cover in 2022, and we need your support to ensure we have the journalistic resources we need to do it well.

I give to the Forward each year, and, as with other gifts, I want to maximize the impact. That’s why I’m donating today, when every gift has triple the value thanks to a generous donor.

Tonight, my family and I will light three Hanukkah candles. They represent the way a tiny amount of oil had a much larger impact than anyone ever expected.
