A federal grant program for arts venues struggling during the coronavirus pandemic has doled out millions of dollars to Hampton Roads venue operators. Hampton Roads movie theaters, concert halls, museums and other live venues have been awarded more than $38.8 million since the beginning of the federal program. That's according to some local attorneys who regularly practice in Norfolk's federal court. McCabe's older brother, Tom, said he's not surprised by the convictions and his refusal to take a plea deal. "He always wanted to be a big fish in a little pond," Tom McCabe said. Over 2,800 new cases are being diagnosed throughout Virginia each day, up more than 20% from the prior week, according to the Virginia Department of Health. Hamptonâs visitorsâ bureau and its history museum have been awarded a combined $20,000 in state tourism grants to promote the coming aquatics center and the Civil War Trail, city officials said this week. The funding comes from the Virginia Tourism Corporation and its recovery marketing leverage grant program, which assists local and regional tourism organizations with attracting visitors and building interest locally.

Every Sunday through September, weather permitting, Boat Church services are held on the Narrows Beach at First Landing State Park. Worshippers gather along the shoreline or in boats to participate in a service lead by local pastors. The idea was initiated by former Gov. Bob McDonnell. Read more in the Sunday Break section The first thing I did when I found out I had gotten a summer internship at The Virginian-Pilot was to Google âHampton Roads Ultimate Frisbee.â I didnât find much. A summer league in Newport News that played once a week. A womenâs team in Richmond that seemed pretty good. A Facebook group with people â mostly men â posting about beach pickup. I play Ultimate Frisbee in college at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill. Itâs more competitive than people think and, no, it is not the same as disc golf: The game calls for two teams, seven people each. A team scores a point by catching the Frisbee in the end zone. When you are holding the disc, you canât run with it; you have to pass it to another teammate within 10 seconds. Itâs like a combination of soccer, football and basketball, except with a plastic disc.
