Throwback Thursday with AAS! New Zealand’s Pukeko Pictures originally pitched its publishing-led Book Hungry Bears project to the AAS crowd in 2014 as a Wild Card entry. The 52 x 11-minute CGI-animated series has since been co-produced with Canadian partner Breakthrough Entertainment and Hengxin Shambala Kids in China, and has aired in Canada (TVO/TFO/Knowledge Network), Australia (ABC Kids) and New Zealand (TVNZ). The first 26 eps of Book Hungry Bears also received an official broadcasting license by Chinese TV and film executive agency SARFT. In the broader market, 9 Story Media represents the series in all other territories, and serves as the IP’s global licensing partner everywhere except China. The show’s popularity has also triggered an additional 12 book titles addressing the themes of inclusion, sharing and collaboration. Want to be among the first to discover this year’s best new animation concepts developing in Asia-Pacific? Registration for AAS 2020 is now open, and a $200 Early-Bird discount is in effect until Friday, August 28. In light of the continued uncertainty around the coronavirus pandemic, Kidscreen has adjusted its cancellation policy for AAS so that if it’s not possible to produce a live event because of COVID-19, all registration fees will be fully refunded. |
