Throwback Thursday with AAS! Hit preschool series Bluey got its start at AAS 2016 in Brisbane, where it won the event’s coveted “Best in Show” prize. Produced by Ludo Studio, the series debuted in October 2018 and dominated the Australian kids TV landscape right out of the gate—it was the number-one kids show of 2019 on metro broadcast TV in the country. In digital viewing, Bluey’s first season has generated 261 million program plays on ABC iview, with season two already up to 43 million views since premiering in March 2020. The series is also winning fans around the world, after BBC Studios struck a global broadcast deal with Disney for the series outside of Australia, New Zealand and Greater China in June 2019. Bluey won a 2019 International Emmy Award in the “Kids: Preschool” category, as well as picking up a Logie Award for “Most Outstanding Preschool Program” and an AACTA Award for “Best Children’s Program” domestically. Storybook Bluey: The Beach was named 2020’s “Book of the Year” at the Australian Book Industry Awards in May, and nearly a million books have sold in Australia since the book series published by Penguin Random House Australia launched at retail in November 2019. Want to be among the first to discover this year’s best new animation concepts developing in Asia-Pacific? Registration for AAS 2020 is now open, and a $200 Early-Bird discount is in effect until Friday, August 28. In light of the continued uncertainty around the coronavirus pandemic, Kidscreen has adjusted its cancellation policy for AAS so that if it’s not possible to produce a live event because of COVID-19, all registration fees will be fully refunded. |
