Energy Realism this past week released our new report blowing up net zero and why fossil fuel support will remain so critical. Physics and higher costs do not care about your green feelings. Our great Senior Fellow Rupert Darwall got us started last week: the dreams of net zero are not really just nightmares but physically and financially impossible. Unlike in business and finance, there are no criminal or civil penalties for those who promote policies based on fraud and misrepresentation. Rather, net zero is similar to communism. Like net zero, communism was based on a lie: that it would outproduce capitalism. But it failed to produce, and belief in communism evaporated. When the collapse came, it was sudden and rapid. The truth could not be hidden. A similar fate awaits net zero. So, here we must introduce Rupert’s new report released during the week for our RealClear Foundation. Rupert Darwall’s timely report is a much-needed warning to America. It shows what would happen if Democrats and Progressives get their way and inflict net zero climate policies on the country. Derrick Hollie describes how such faulty energy policies are hurting Black Americans most. Biden’s climate policies mean higher cost and less reliable energy, especially destructive for those who can least afford it. And globally, nobody seems to be listening to Western climate fanatics. Tilak Doshi and Peter A. Coclanis describe how the world is increasingly turning to coal, despite Western progressives demanding that the world’s poor stop using the very same source of electricity that made us so rich. The anti-fossil fuel industry, it should be noted, is full of dark money. Duggan Flanakin argues against our climate controllers. But more even than leaders, those who cherish their humanity and freedoms must name and confront the deceivers who have used the smokescreen of “climate change” to strip away even our “unalienable rights.” Let’s revisit our Essential Reading then from Alex Epstein: not just lower cost and more reliable, fossil fuels are indeed moral. With 85% of humans living in still developing countries, supporting fossil fuels is a must.
