Aaron Parks’ Little Big, the newest project from the acclaimed pianist, keyboardist and composer, is at once the culmination of his brilliant early career and the long-awaited follow-up to his Blue Note Records debut, Invisible Cinema. “This is the natural successor to that record,” says the New York-based artist, 34. “It’s taking the ideas of that project and doubling down on them—fully committing to that direction.” |

The history of bebop can be traced through the development of evolving piano styles. New sounds and sonorities emerged as the music grew, and melodic lines and voicings changed. Three figures were key in this development: Bud Powell, Mary Lou Williams, and Bill Evans. In homage to these masters and the different styles of bebop they espoused, three of Colorado’s finest pianists will perform their takes on this great American art form. |
