As the year comes to a close, we are reminded of the importance of your love. Sixty years ago, St. John’s Museum of Art was born out of the deep desire of our community for an art museum. The growth of St. John’s into CAM was possible and continues to be possible because of your love of the arts and your belief that art it is vital to the fabric of a thriving community.

2022 was an inspiring year at CAM thanks to our community. From 20 Years to Promise to Jazz@CAM’s 12th season to Art Explorers to Boundless programming to Floating Lanterns to Museum School classes to State of the Art/ Art of the State to outreach to those in need, our community of visitors, students, artists, and supporters made 2022 one of our best years yet.

Manny Santos is a jazz percussionist, bandleader, and vocalist who hails from New Bedford, Massachusetts and is of Cape Verdean decent. He became interested in jazz percussion at an early age and began performing professionally at the age of 15. His future would become one of polyrhythmic expressionism, inclusive of the jazz and Latin experience.


Manny appears on a number of recordings, including with flutist Treg Monty and pianist Yasko Kubota, No Place To Hide, (available on CDFreedom.com), with The Geoffrey Hicks Quartet, entitled Cartagena, (available on Amazon.com), with Willie Sordillo, Echoing (available on Amazon.com), and with World Music KabuJazz vocalist Candida Rose, The Sum of Me.

We all have individual reasons to create our own Floating Lantern . . . to honor someone who is dear, to memorialize a cherished family member or to treasure a special moment. CAM’s Floating Lantern Ceremony is an expression of Remembrance, Reflection and Gratitude. No charge to attend Floating Lantern Ceremony held at CAM’s Reflection Pond. Lantern decorating supplies available in Pancoe. Live music near pond and hot chocolate, beverages, and light bites available from CAM Café. FREE Admission to museum galleries 10 am-7 pm.

Enjoy a morning of music in the galleries, adapted exhibition exploration, as well as optional hands-on activities and the choice to bring a boxed lunch to enjoy in our café or courtyard area. Geared towards individuals in the earlier stages of Alzheimers and dementia, this program is offered on Mondays when we are otherwise closed to the public to ensure a quiet and calm environment. Let’s learn about Martin Luther King Jr! We will read Who was Martin Luther King Jr and talk about ways we can make a difference in our community and share kindness. We will create peace flags that will become a part of our community Peace Flag installation around the CAM pond.


Art Explorers is geared towards infants, toddler and preschoolers, but big brothers and sisters are welcome to join and create art with us. Space is limited so preregister to guarantee your spot!

"I Have a Dream" Peace Flag Weekend

CAM honors the life and work of civil rights activist Martin Luther King with the "I Have a Dream" Peace Flag Project. 


We invite the community to take inspiration from King’s iconic speech from 1963 and create a Tibetan prayer flags.Your flag will be included in a community installation that will be displayed around the CAM pond.

AM Life Drawing 

Instructor: Donna Moore

Work with professional nude models, following a self-guided format studying the human form - in your medium of choice. A basic understanding of technique and tools is suggested. Single, drop-in tuition can be reserved online or paid upon arrival. Ongoing weekly.  Click on "Show individual events" to register for separate class sessions. 

Artists can also purchase Four-session discounted punch cards through the Museum School office to be used in morning or evening classes during the Winter or Spring session. Punch cards must be used during the Winter or Spring session dates, but they do not have to be applied to consecutive dates.

Creations of beauty you can appreciate in your home. With minimal materials, prescribed techniques of the Ohara School of Japanese Flower Arranging, you will enjoy unique, inspired floral designs.

Drawing Inspired by Nature

Instructor: Antionette Vogt

Use nature as inspiration to create beautiful drawings! Improve your drawing ability through close observation. For the winter session we will bring the outdoors inside. Class time will be spent drawing various winter greens, indoor plants, and early blooms. Students will learn different techniques to enhance drawings and add color. Focus will be given to composition and developing new ways to capture your subject. Experimentation is encouraged. Students are welcome to bring in plants, flowers, or clippings from their yard. Some previous drawing experience suggested but not required.

Printmaking Studies: Lithography Made Easy

Instructor: Antionette Vogt

Lithography is a planographic printmaking method. Unlike the relief or intaglio printing process, there are no raised or carved out areas. Printing is done from a flat surface using the repelling properties of oil and water. In this class you will learn a simple method using common household products instead of the chemicals used in traditional lithography.

Ceramic Figure Sculpture Workshop

Instructor: Anne McCombie

With the observation of a live model to inspire us we will form a mound of clay into figurative sculpture. Work small and create individual body parts or create the full form. The choice is yours. All skill levels are welcome.

The Natural Way to Draw

Instructor: Donna Moore

Based on the classic method of study by Kimon Nicolaides, "The way to learn to draw is by drawing". Through gestures and observation of both objects and live models, practice capturing form and character of a subject by activating your personal visual sense.
