Join us for USCT Living History Weekend at CAM!

Celebrate Black History Month at CAM by joining us for USCT Living History Weekend taking place on Saturday, February 18 and Sunday, February 19.

The museum invites the community to commemorate the Battle of Forks Road with a weekend of Living History on CAM’s grounds with USCT reenactors, family activities, film screenings, illustrated lectures, and more.

On Saturday, February 18 from 10AM to 5PM all are invited to learn about the lives of the United States Colored Troops with reenactors from the 35th USCT and Battery B on the museum grounds.

Guest lecturers include Kaitlin O’Connor from the Fort Fisher Historic Site and Dr. Chris Fonvielle, Professor Emeritus at UNCW, who has published books and articles including The Wilmington Campaign: Last Rays of Departing Hope; Wilmington and the Lower Cape Fear: An Illustrated History; Fort Fisher 1865: The Photographs of T.H. O’Sullivan; Glory at Wilmington: The Battle of Forks Road.

Gullah Geechee Foodways in Southeastern NC(22 min) and Gullah Geechee History and Rice Growing in Brunswick County (19 min) from the North Carolina Rice Festival will be screened followed by a Q&A.


Daniel Jones, CAM Cultural Curator, will lead a tour of Boundless at 3 PM on Saturday, February 18.


All outside activities are free. There is a $5 suggested donation for lectures and museum admission will apply for the galleries.

The repertoire of this high energy group consists of authentic Latin Jazz made famous by such famous Latin jazz musicians as Tito Puente, Mongo Santamaria, Buena Vista Social Club, and Dizzy Gillespie plus original tunes by Gelb, Anderson and Kleindienst.


La Fiesta’s first recording entitled La Fiesta Latin Jazz Quintet was released in September of 2016 and in 2022 they released Latin Jazz Pandemic Suite.

Mary's Art Explorers

The Year We Learned to Fly

As a part of our partnership with NEA’s The Big Read, our book will be The Year We Learned to Fly by Jacqueline Woodson. All children will receive a free copy of the book! We will explore our installation Flying School and create our own unique works of art to take home.


Art Explorers is geared towards infants, toddler and preschoolers, but big brothers and sisters are welcome to join and create art with us. Space is limited so preregister to guarantee your spot!


It is with great honor that Cameron Art Museum pays tribute to Mary Cameron Hoey by naming its most popular and long standing family program after her. Mary’s Art Explorers is a story time, art making, and museum exploration program.

Glen and Florence Hardymon welcome visitors into the Hughes Wing to discuss work from their collection now on view as part of Promise.


Promise highlights promised gifts from the collections of Glen and Florence Hardymon and Andrew and Hathia Hayes, as well as new acquisitions and other promised gifts to CAM’s collection. Artists featured in this exhibition include Rick Beck, Lisa Clague, Christina Cordova, Jim Dine, Maud Gatewood, Susan Taylor Glasgow, Sol Lewitt, Juan Logan, Beverly McIver, Joan Miro, Robert Motherwell, Robert Rauschenberg, Frank Stella, Hiroshi Sueyoshi, and Steffen Thomas.

Enjoy a morning of music in the galleries, adapted exhibition exploration, as well as optional hands-on activities and the choice to bring a boxed lunch to enjoy in our café or courtyard area. Geared towards individuals in the earlier stages of Alzheimers and dementia, this program is offered on Mondays when we are otherwise closed to the public to ensure a quiet and calm environment. The Dance Cooperative will be hosting choreography showings as they prepare for the Wilmington Dance Festival, a celebration of evocative local dancers and choreographers. Choreographers will show works in progress and receive feedback. The Dance Cooperative is a 501(c)3 non-profit whose mission is to nurture the dance community by providing affordable classes and performance opportunities for those under-served artistically, culturally and economically in the greater Wilmington area.

Hammered Copper Hearts

Instructor: Renato Abbate

Make and take the perfect gift for your sweetheart this Valentine's Day: a handmade hammered heart-shaped dish with your loving message stamped inside. Renato Abbate was born in Italy and transplanted yearly till 1999. He currently lives in Wilmington and loves the port city. He is always looking for ways to push his work further using mixed media and clay. Innovation is his inspiration.

The Revolutionary Print: Printmaking works in the Promise Exhibition

Discover the history and process behind selected artists in the exhibition. Explore lithographs and serigraphs created by some of the premiere American modernists such as Ellsworth Kelly, Andy Warhol, Frank Stella and Robert Rauschenberg.
