BOSTON: The Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GBCVB) recently announced a partnership with Tourism Diversity Matters (TDM) to support GBCVB’s inaugural apprenticeship program. The collaboration is designed to support workforce development and economic enhancements within the tourism and hospitality industry. DM’s Apprenticeship Program is a 600-hour paid rotational opportunity for diverse professionals interested in tourism and hospitality careers. The apprentices will gain experience in different areas, including event management, marketing, communications, public relations, sales, finance, sports management, and more. At the end of the program, the apprentice is offered a full-time position with the program host or another participating partner.
NEW YORK: Outdoor beach-themed restaurant and bar Ellington in the Park will throw a Halloween party to celebrate the end of summer on Oct. 30. The alfresco bar, located on Riverside Drive, will host a family friendly Halloween party from 11 a.m.-11 p.m. before closing for the season. Kids will receive complimentary candy bags and “Not Apple Cider,” while adults can enjoy $3 beers. The best dressed family (as judged by the bartenders) will also win a $100 gift certificate to sister establishment Ellington on Broadway on the Upper West Side. ArtsConnection—a 43-year-old arts education nonprofit serving NYC children with comprehensive arts education programs and services—will host the Back to School with ArtsConnection Gala on Sept. 21 from 6:30-10:30 p.m. at the IAC Building. The gala will be hosted by stage and screen star Seth Gilliam (The Walking Dead, The Wire) and will honor champion of the arts, artists, and arts-in-education Ted Berger, presented by Laurie Cumbo, commissioner of the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs. The evening will also include cocktails, a seated dinner, award presentation, and live music performances by West Village String Quartet and Ruben Gonzalez & Handmade. Tickets start at $500.
WASHINGTON, D.C.:Events DC will host an inaugural three-day festival that celebrates DC’s global culinary scene Oct. 13-15. The 2022 Events DC International City Food Festival will be three days of events in partnership with the city’s diplomatic corps. Events will include the Events DC Embassy Chef Challenge, a friendly culinary competition between embassy chefs from around the world, during which they're showcase the unique flavors of their home countries; and Taste of Oktoberfest, a collaboration with the German-American Heritage Foundation and the German Embassy to bring a truly authentic taste of the legendary German festivities to D.C.
