Celebrate Black History Month by listening

Hi Friend, Last week began Black History Month, an annual opportunity to deepen our understanding of the contributions Black Americans have made to our culture, our communities, and our shared history.
As Tarece Johnson wrote in the Forward last February, Jews should pay particular attention to Black History Month. She wrote that Black Americans and Jewish Americans “share a history of oppression, exile, slavery, discrimination and resilience. Understanding the intersections of the Black and Jewish experience builds and strengthens connections and alliances that are critical to making a positive difference.”
It’s also crucial for us to listen to and create space for Black Jews, who bring a unique perspective to the experience of being Black as well as the experience of being Jewish. We believe in providing a platform for diverse perspectives, so this February we’re uplifting the voices of Black Jews all month long. |
