Last August, when 16-year-old Greta Thunberg began her weekly sit-ins outside Sweden’s Parliament to protest inaction on climate change, she quietly started a global movement. Inspired young people everywhere followed suit, skipping school to get the attention of the adults in charge. Enter #FridaysForFuture, which launched as a direct result of Thunberg’s Instagram and Twitter posts. Now, kid-led strikes and marches—usually on Fridays and often organized by teenage girls—have become a weekly occurrence around the globe. In honor of International Women's Day, Sierra spoke with five young female climate activists. |
