EVERYTHING HAPPENING IN TORONTO REAL ESTATE THIS WEEK |
Dear reader, My family loves trees. My mom’s folks had a cherry tree in their backyard, and my dad’s had a pear tree out front. I suspect trees were the main reason my parents bought our post-war Etobicoke home in the ’90s—there were three behemoth maples and plenty of room to plant fruit trees and vegetable gardens, which they did. Toronto has many grants and incentives for homeowners to expand the urban forest, including free trees and compost. But, if you’re looking for a property that’s already nicely wooded, consider Curb Appeal’s top post this week: a $2.2-million house in Dufferin County with a giant magnolia that residents can gaze upon from a sunroom. (And if you didn’t know, magnolia leaves actually taste quite nice when pickled.) Also in today’s newsletter: NIMBYs start a multiplex melee on Kipling. And a tour of an A-frame in pastoral Pickering. |

A two-plus-two-bedroom, four-bathroom Mono mid-century classic, this recently renovated house blends California architecture with modernist furniture and some contemporary flourishes. It comes with 10 acres, a spiral staircase, an outdoor shower and a tributary of the Humber River that nourishes the home’s vegetable gardens and surrounding wildlife. |

| It’s the latest in multiplex mayhem: a modest proposal for a pair of three-storey condo buildings on Kipling was kiboshed after officials bowed to the wrath of local homeowners. Proposed by Grand Communities, the fourplexes at 1090 Kipling Avenue in Islington would have offered a total of eight family-friendly two-bedroom condo units at the affordable-for-Toronto price of $800,000 each. |

| What A-frame in the country would be complete without a chicken coop, a metal roof, 13 parking spots, original farmhouse features and—believe it or not—a view of Lake Ontario. |
