Friend, in his role as a police sergeant, Mark Bailey is accustomed to dealing with bad situations. But when he started experiencing double vision, he was about to face the scariest time of his life.
An MRI revealed a large mass in Mark’s skull, behind his eyes. His local neurologist couldn't treat it. So, Mark turned to The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Please make your Annual Fund gift now to support world-renowned research and expertise that can give people like Mark a second chance at life.
MD Anderson was a nine-hour drive from Mark’s Alabama home. “I knew if I wanted to watch my 4-year-old son grow up, I’d have to make some tough choices,” he says.
Mark learned he had a rare skull base tumor. His neurosurgeon told him, “Yes, you have a rare tumor. But it’s not rare here. We’ve got this.”
Surgeons removed Mark’s tumor. After recovering for a month, he returned to MD Anderson for eight weeks of proton therapy. He’s been cancer-free ever since. “They gave me hope when all seemed hopeless,” Mark says.
Make your lifesaving gift to the 2019-2020 MD Anderson Annual Fund now — and help make the future brighter for people facing cancer.
After his treatment, Mark gave his doctors a challenge coin from his local sheriff’s department. “The coins are for people who never give up, even when things get hard,” he says. “That describes everyone I met at MD Anderson.”
Your gift today, no matter how big or small, will help save lives.
