Michigan's voting stickers just got a little more funđłïž |
Michiganders can show off their voting participation with a little more flair this election season thanks to nine new sticker designs. The nine designs were created and chosen by Michiganders in a contest held by the Michigan Department of State. The statewide competition, open to elementary school students up to adults, received more than 480 entries. As a reminder, Election Day is November 5. These 10 Michigan universities are best in the U.S., Princeton Review ranking says |
Best in class: From smaller private schools to large public institutions, Princeton Review has featured ten Michigan schools in this yearâs âBest 390 Collegesâ rankings for 2025. The publicationâs rankings are based on student surveys on multiple topics, including academics such as classroom experience, quality of life, diversity, life in the college town, extracurriculars and social scenes. More resources: Three Washtenaw County school district are getting substantial state grants to help students sharpen up their math skills. Filling the gap: A 2024 survey at Ferris State University found that 45% of main campus students listed food insecurity as a barrier to success. In response, Ferris State opened an on-campus food pantry, which had over 115 student visitors in its first five hours open last week. |

Michigan district first to test system providing dispatchers real-time access to cameras |
Emergency dispatchers in Livingston County are testing a new technology that allows them to see what is going on at the scene of an emergency using security cameras already in place. Livingston Educational Service Agency is the first agency in Michigan to test the Eagle Eye software in a partnership with RapidSOS, which links data from connected devices and buildings directly to 911, RapidSOS agents, and field responders. Unpaid bills: Ambulance service providers across Michigan are demanding the state make it right after, they say, a former state contractor failed to pay $6 million for services provided. New addition: The Argentine Township Fire and Rescue Department will soon have a new tanker fire truck thanks to federal funding awarded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. |

Michigan winter forecast: Better not sell the snowblower |
This winterâs forecast for Michigan reads a lot different from the one last year. The Climate Prediction Center meteorologist Brad Pugh says there is a 70% chance of a La Niña pattern developing by winter. This would yield a near-normal temperature winter and a heavier precipitation winter. The warming trend of our winters could also take an average temperature season and make it a degree or two warmer than normal. Spotting waterspouts: September is one of the most common times for waterspouts on the Great Lakes. The weekend will have a prime weather set-up for waterspouts on the Great Lakes.The reason is the lake water is nearly at its warmest while the air aloft is starting to cool down. Bye bugs: Experts at Michigan State University are providing some tips and tricks to deal with stink bugs and how to keep them out of your home. |

Detroit Lions drone show happening hundreds of feet above Ford Field |
Sight to see: A Detroit Lions-themed drone show is taking place on Saturday evening to celebrate the start of the NFL season. The show will take to the skies at 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Ford Field, a day before the Lions face off against the L.A. Rams on September 8. Being recognized: The Detroit Tigers have seven players in the top 100 in Baseball Americaâs refreshed rankings released this week. The list includes the magazineâs post-draft scouting work. Several players who have âgraduatedâ by logging 130 at-bats or 50 innings in the big leagues were excluded from the ranking. Sunday Night Football: L.A. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford says he's looking forward to the noise from Lions fans before the two teams open the season against one another on Sunday night in Detroit. |

Just so you know: The serene environment of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore might be a tempting place to set up an overnight camping spot, but officials are reminding visitors that "boondocking" is illegal. "Boondocking," or camping in a remote location without access to any water, sewer or electricity, is prohibited along the national lakeshore. Here are five campsites available this fall instead. Staying active: Boyne Mountainâs popular Yoga in the Sky sessions are being extended into fall with a new batch of autumn dates. The activity kicks off with a guided hike up Boyne Mountain before participants enjoy a yoga class using the resort's SkyBridge. Save the date: A sneak peek is coming this fall for Lake Michiganâs highly anticipated new campsite including yurts and treehouses. Ottawa Sands in Ferrysburg is hosting a grand reopening party on Thursday, Oct. 17 after a summer of construction. |
