The NCAA men's Division I transfer portal opened on March 17. It closes on Tuesday. Players who want to transfer must be in the portal by then, but they don’t have to decide their destinations until school starts in the fall. Our partners at The Portal Report have amassed the names of nearly 2,200 men's basketball players who are in the portal. Just over 500 have committed to their next school. And on the women's side, there are over 1,400 portal entrants.

In other words, we’ve got a long way to go.

Within the last couple of days, we’ve seen some really big names (Memphis forward P.J. Haggerty and Auburn forward Chad Baker-Mazara, to name just two) enter the portal, and some other prominent players announce their commitments (Princeton guard Xaivian Lee to Florida, Indiana forward Mackenzie Mgbako to Texas A&M). We have updated all the latest happenings in our Top 50 transfer rankings, which not only ranks the players and offers scouting reports on each one, but also reports the latest news on where everyone is headed. If they haven’t committed, we’ve listed the schools they’re considering. It’s all all in one tidy place, just awaiting your perusal. Eden Laase also has a story on the site today listing the top headlines from the women’s portal.

If it feels like this is a lot to keep track of for fans and the media, imagine what it’s like to be a coach like Clemson’s Brad Brownell and Tennessee’s Rick Barnes. Our writers spoke with those guys to see how the roster reshuffling is going. We’ll continue to check in with the top coaches in the weeks and months ahead. And don’t forget, a lot of the rosters are dependent on whether certain players decide to remain in the NBA Draft or return to college. Those decisions won’t be finalized until the end of May.

So yeah, it’s crazy and chaotic, but that means there has never been a better time to become a Hoops HQ subscriber. I hope you’ll consider signing up so you can feed your insatiable appetites for insight and inside information on all things college hoop.

Have a great Saturday, and thanks as always for your support of Hoops HQ. —Seth

Portal Latest: AAC Player of Year and Son of NBA Legend Looking for New Homes

By Riley Frain

With the portal dead period behind us and transfers once again permitted to take in-person visits, the past week has brought a flurry of activity. There are currently more than 2,100 players in the men’s portal, as the clock ticks ever louder on the entry deadline of April 22nd.

On Thursday and Friday alone, multiple former top-100 prospects formally entered the portal and declared their intention to transfer. More than a dozen players committed to programs and countless more took official visits. Here is the latest news you need to know.

AAC Player of the Year Is On The Move
The portal has a new contender for “best available transfer” as 6-foot-3 sophomore guard PJ Haggerty, a Memphis star who was the AAC Player of the Year, has just entered. Haggerty averaged 21.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists, and led the AAC in scoring while helping the Tigers win a conference title.

Haggerty’s career started at TCU, where he made just six appearances and took a redshirt. He played his second year at Tulsa, where he was named the 2023-24 AAC Rookie of the Year. Now, after leaving Memphis, he’s in search of....

Cal Standout Goes Portaling
Andrej Stojakovic, a former four-star prospect, has entered the portal after a season in which he averaged 17.9 points and 4.7 rebounds for Cal. The 6-foot-7 sophomore wing — the son of 13-year NBA veteran Peja Stojakovic — began his career at Stanford in 2023-24, where he made 32 appearances as a freshman.

Early reports suggest Stojakovic is considering schools including....

Women’s Offseason Report: Seven Storylines You Need to Follow

By Eden Laase

It's been less than two weeks since UConn cut down the nets at the NCAA women's championship game, and there are precisely 1,421 entries in the women's transfer portal, with 369 commitments. That’s a lot of movement to keep track of. So, to make things easier, Hoops HQ has the seven top storylines you should be paying attention to:

TCU Establishes Itself as the Destination for Transfers
Hailey Van Lith transfered to TCU last year and then had the best season of her five-year college career — her draft stock rocketed and earlier this week she was picked 11th in the WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky. But TCU's gains may be even more significant, as Mark Campbell built a reputation as a coach whom players can find success under. That led to the signing of Olivia Miles, who shocked the hoops world with her decision to leave the Notre Dame and enter the portal. “Coach Campbell is one of the greatest in the game,” Miles said. “He has a very direct plan for me and for our team.” That plan includes finding talent in the portal to play alongside Miles, including 6-foot-3 forward Marta Suarez (Cal), 6-foot-7 center....

Notre Dame Loses Most of Its Roster
Miles wasn’t the only player to make a move out of South Bend. In addition to graduating guards Sonia Citron and Maddy Westbeld and forward Liatu King, Notre Dame lost more three players to the portal. Former top-5 recruit and 6-foot-5 freshman Kate Koval is heading for LSU, 6-foot-1 sophomore guard Emma Risch committed to Florida State and 6-foot-4 senior forward Kylee Watson is signing with Villanova. That leaves coach Niele Ivey with a very thin roster with only....
