Good morning, đ§Coming up at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, MPR News host Angela Davis talks with three guests about the many unique holiday traditions in our state, where they came from and why they are important to us. And at noon, Paul Huttner shares the latest on the winter storm and blizzard, poised to pound our state over the next three days. We talk with Matt Carter, executive director of the Dakota County Historical Society, about the town that never was, "Ninenjer." Plus, Geology Professor Jim Cotter tells the story of Lake Agassiz. Here's what else we have planned today. Travel conditions will deteriorate as snow moves in Wednesday, and then the winds will kick in blizzard conditions as we move into Thursday and Friday. | | COVID nearly killed him, then the hard part began | Two years ago, Gabe Pastores was intubated and on last-ditch life saving measures in Mayo Clinic's COVID-19 wing. Many of those patients didn't make it out, but Pastores did. His COVID journey, however, was far from over. Nearly three years after the first cases of COVID surfaced in the United States, Minnesota and the rest of the world have mostly moved on. Masking is down, vaccinations are at a trickle and the disease that killed nearly 14,000 Minnesotans and made thousands more ill is viewed now as more nuisance than crisis. But for Pastores and thousands of others, the disease continues to take a toll. Their struggles are real yet fading out of the public consciousness. | |
