Michael Phelps Discusses Watching Olympic Trials From the Stands, As a Dad

Michael Phelps is in a rare position this week in Omaha. He isn’t the favorite, he isn’t making a comeback and he isn’t an underdog.

He is just here.

Phelps and his family have been at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, soaking in the trials from the unfamiliar position of a swimming fan.

Monday night at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, Ledecky had her chance to respond, but she was unable to come close to 3:56 territory, and she ended up swimming a time two seconds slower than her own season-best time.

After a five-year long wait, the US Olympic Trials have finally arrived. With six weeks until the Olympic Games, the United States will begin selecting its Olympic team for the Tokyo Games on Sunday evening as the finals of the 400 IM and men’s 400 free will be held. The heats of the men’s 100 breaststroke and women’s 100 butterfly will also take place on Sunday morning.

Unsurprisingly, 2012 Olympic gold medalist Ryan Lochte scratched the 400 IM after being entered in the event on the psych sheet.
