How Ohio legislators created high-paying job for Lt. Gov. Jon Husted: Ohio lawmakers have revised an uncontroversial bill — one granting health benefits to the families of slain public safety workers — and made it controversial by tacking on pay increases for themselves and also creating a new administrative office in which incoming Lt. Gov. Jon Husted will get a major pay increase. Husted will run InnovateOhio, a new office with a $176,426 salary, a 60 percent raise over Husted’s salary as Secretary of State. Husted also will be paid $113,900 as lieutenant governor, an increase from $78,041. Read more. Shaker Heights Middle School students caught with suspected marijuana edibles: School district officials have notified police and are investigating after a “small number” of Shaker Heights Middle School students distributed and consumed candy that may have been laced with marijuana. The school district is investigating to determine what illicit substances might have been in the candy. If the candies are found to be marijuana edibles, the students involved could face punishment. Fired Euclid police officer gets five days in jail for pulling gun during bar fight: A fired Euclid police officer will spend five days in jail for pulling a gun during a bar fight with suspected members of the Hell’s Angels biker gang in August. Todd Gauntner, 32, was sentenced to 180 days in jail, but the judge suspended 175 days. Gaunter also will spend one year on probation and is barred from possessing a gun during that period. Freddie Kitchens begins search for assistant coaches: Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens reportedly will interview former Bucs offensive coordinator Todd Monken, 52, for the same position here, and former Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter. Reports say the Browns also are interested in former Colts head coach Chuck Pagano as defensive coordinator, although he could be the frontrunner for that role with the Cardinals.
