Cleveland.com reporter Nikki Delamotte shot to death in Northwest Ohio: Nikki Delamotte, 30, a culture reporter for cleveland.com whose passionate storytelling and kindness left an indelible mark on her community and newsroom, was found shot to death Monday in a suspected homicide in Wood County. Delamotte and her uncle, Robert J. Delamotte, 67, were found dead at the uncle’s trailer in Perrysburg Township, about 10 miles southeast of Toledo. Delamotte’s death was mourned in Cleveland as family, friends and colleagues praised her for her kindness, professionalism and ability to tell stories that highlighted the city's diversity. Ohio U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown weighs run for president: After comfortably winning re-election to his U.S. Senate seat last week, Sherrod Brown says he is considering a run for president. Brown says he's heard from an "overwhelming" number of people who have told him he should think of a presidential run, and that he and his family intend to discuss it over the holidays. He says he believes the message of worker empowerment that he espoused in this year's re-election should be a blueprint for Democrats to win back the White House in 2020. Read more  

Slain North Royalton deacon, wife beloved by church, family: The deaths of deacon Dennis Lucak and his wife Helen, both 72, shocked the community at Archangel Michael Church in Broadview Heights, an Orthodox Christian Church where Dennis Lucak had been a deacon for at least two decades. The couple, who were found slain inside their North Royalton apartment, helped out friends whenever they could. “I’m just shocked,” a friend says. “We’re all shocked. We can’t believe something like this would happen to them. They were the nicest people. They had so much to look forward to.” Read more  


Ohio State drains Mirror Lake before Michigan game: Ohio State University has temporarily drained Mirror Lake in an effort to end the tradition of the lake jump prior to the football game against archrival Michigan. Ohio State last year agreed to pay $450,000 to settle a negligence claim filed by the parents of Austin Singletary, who died after diving into the shallow water in 2015. The Mirror Lake jump began in 1990. Read more
