Apple's Vision Pro a boon for AR/VR market, new data suggests

Fresh data suggests Apple’s new Vision Pro headset will help to push sales of mixed-reality headsets across the entire augmented/virtual-reality market

Shipments for AR/VR "mixed-reality" headsets declined 23.5% in 2023, research firm IDC said on Tuesday, but this year is shaping up to be one of recovery as shipments are forecast to surge 44.2% to 9.7 million units. IDC suggested that Apple's Vision Pro, as well as headset launches by other companies in the coming months, will help to boost growth as economic conditions improve globally.

It was released in June 2023, just a few months before Microsoft completed its acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Going forward, any Activision Blizzard title seems like fair game for Microsoft’s subscription service ...

The Nvidia chief claimed the problem is “very solvable” and can be tackled by a process called “retrieval augmented generation,” in which the AI software researches the answer. “Add a rule: For every single answer, you have to look up the answer,” Huang said, adding, “The AI shouldn’t just answer; it should do research first to determine which of the answers are the best.”

Such hallucinations can lead to all kinds of problems if the user fails to crosscheck information from an AI chatbot properly...
