Long-distance relationships have always had their challenges, but COVID has made a tough situation even tougher, with travel restrictions, health concerns and everyday pandemic-related stressors. For couples who live apart but are used to seeing each other with some degree of regularity, that cadence has gone out the window. And some new couples are finding themselves in long-distance relationships right from the start, due to lockdowns in their respective cities.
“The goal for us is to settle down, get married and start a family,” South Africa-based Nana Kwaku Owusu Sekyere told HuffPost of his relationship with his girlfriend, Imola, who lives in the Netherlands. “But that’s quite difficult to get started with the uncertainty around the pandemic and governments intentionally neglecting to make it easier for long-distance couples to reunite.”
This week, we launched Long-Distance Love, a series about long-distance relationships and how to make them work, especially during the pandemic. We’re featuring real couples in LDRs, like Nana and Imola, as well as expert advice for long-distance partners and BFFs, with tips on how to keep your connection strong despite the distance. Check it all out here.
