Here's the latest news from across the state to start your day.
😎 Wednesday will be fairly pleasant for most of central Minnesota, including the Twin Cities. There's a chance for showers in the southeast and northwest parts of the state. Highs will be in the upper 70s to low 80s for most.

⛈️ There will be more chances for storms Thursday night and Friday night as humid air returns to the region.

🌡️ The weekend looks like it will be hot and sticky. Highs both Saturday and Sunday are set to be in the 90s for southern Minnesota combined with dew points in the 70s.

‘The stuff of nightmares’: The timeline of events leading up to and following Boelter’s attacks
Authorities have revealed a chilling timeline of events that led up to and followed the fatal shooting of former DFL House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark early Saturday.
 
‘What happens in the streets:’ St. Thomas team continues to document art inspired by George Floyd
A team of University of St. Thomas researchers is documenting street art from the George Floyd protests — murals, posters and graffiti — in an ongoing global archive to preserve these ephemeral expressions of resistance and remembrance.
🤖 Data centers face new regulations, some worry they fall short of protecting water, residents. The largest “hyperscale” data centers can consume millions of gallons of water a year. Groups that pushed for tougher rules don’t think the bill goes far enough to protect the state’s water supply and consumers.

🏛️ Former Minnesota ISIS member granted early release after helping terrorism investigators.  A federal judge in Minneapolis cut the sentence short of a Twin Cities man who joined the Islamic State group a decade ago. Abelhamid Al-Madioum left prison Tuesday after providing help in other terrorism cases.

🔍 Childhood friend says Minnesota suspect had ‘darkness inside of him.’ As authorities piece together Boelter’s movements and motivations, people who knew him are conducting their own inventory of their interactions with the one-time pastor, wondering whether they missed any red flags.

🍕 Award-winning Minneapolis restaurant Young Joni to close in September. After nearly a decade of serving northeast Minneapolis, award-winning pizzeria Young Joni announced that it will be closing its doors on Sept. 14. The closure comes after a monthslong dispute with their landlord, Lander Group.

🌲 Forest Service proposes to more than double Boundary Waters fees. The Superior National Forest is proposing to raise fees for Boundary Waters trips for adults from $16 to $40. The price for youth would increase from $8 to $20 per trip.
🎧 Sen. Smith calls out Utah lawmaker’s posts about political shootings. Sen. Mike Lee's social media posts have led to numerous calls for his resignation from both sides of the aisle and a confrontation by Minnesota Sen. Tina Smith, a Democrat.

🎧 Support pours in for service dog nonprofit that the Hortmans volunteered with. Melissa and Mark had a beloved golden retriever named Gilbert, who they adopted from an Eden Prairie nonprofit called Helping Paws. Officials announced Monday that Gilbert also did not survive the shooting.

🎧 Unsubstantiated claims swirled on social media after the shootings of state lawmakers.
In the hours after the horrific shootings of two state lawmakers, unsubstantiated theories began to spread across social media, pushed by prominent conservative politicians and influencers.

🎧 After targeted shootings, Secretary of State explains Minnesota safety program. The Minnesota Secretary of State’s office Safe at Home program is designed to help people who fear for their safety  for a variety of reasons — this incudes lawmakers.
