There's never a dull moment with the New Orleans Saints. If they're not making news with their storm evacuation from Hurricane Ida and relocated season opener in Jacksonville, they're cutting veteran players, signing new ones and making trades. On and off the field, the Saints keep things interesting. Wednesday was more of the same, with the Saints making a splash by trading for veteran cornerback Bradley Roby. The addition of Roby comes just two days after the Saints signed another veteran cornerback, former Atlanta Falcon Desmond Trufant, and one day after releasing veteran backup running back Latavius Murray. The trade for Roby made headlines across the NFL and certainly created a buzz among Saints fans, who have desperately wanted the Saints to address the position since the NFL Draft in May. Roby, our Luke Johnson reports, fills a long-discussed need for the team. The Saints have been trying to make a deal for a cornerback for the past several months. Columnist Rod Walker is bullish on the move. Just like, Walker writes, the Saints defense went from really good to having a chance to be special. I liked the move just as much as Rod. In fact, I think the addition of Roby gives the Saints potentially their best defense in the Sean Payton era. Time will tell if I'm right. The Roby trade wasn't the only good Saints news on Wednesday. Far from it, there was plenty to get excited about. Beat writer Amie Just reports that Ken Crawley was the only player on the initial injury report for Week 1. Johnson, meanwhile, takes a look at the Saints' new defensive tackles, who are going to need to step up big-time if the Saints are going to upset the Packers on Sunday. And finally, Devin Jackson has everything that you need to know about the opener against the Packers in Jacksonville on Sunday, including the betting line, numbers to know and how to watch the game on TV.
