Dear Reader,

It's a decision Boris Johnson had hoped to avoid, but he is now set to delay the end of coronavirus restrictions. You can follow the latest, including the official announcement, on our politics liveblog. The postponement leads to an inevitable question: when will we be freed? Tim Stanley explores the logic of perpetual lockdown in his column and warns the Tories of the political cost of ditching liberty.

England secured their first-ever win in an opening Euros fixture yesterday, with a relatively convincing performance against Croatia. One of the less-heralded moments was the substitution of Harry Kane, the captain. Jamie Carragher writes in his column that this is a sign of things to come, with Kane playing a very different role to the one he did at the 2018 World Cup, and that he is no longer untouchable. It’s a fascinating read.

Yasmin Le Bon may not dominate the headlines with her husband Simon in the way she once did, but her influence in the fashion world remains as strong as ever. Lisa Armstrong sat down for a lengthy conversation with Le Bon about her modelling career and how she forced herself to stay humble despite her luxurious surroundings.

Finally, turning 50 may seem daunting, and it is often the cause of a midlife crisis. It needn’t be that way. Seven well-known over-65s, including Esther Rantzen, AC Grayling and Richard Madeley, have told The Telegraph what they wish they had known at 50 and explain why there’s so much to look forward to beyond the half-century mark.
